Description
| The prevention of diseases caused by Aedes-borne pathogens, such as dengue, chikungunya and Zika viruses, relies on mosquito control. An innovative method adapted for Aedes albopictus mosquitoes is the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) that consists in the mass-release of sterilized mosquito males. The impact of SIT and the optimization of release strategies can be studied from modelling. This dataset includes entomological collected on the field during an SIT trial in Mauritius, 2017-2019, as well as modelled mosquito population dynamics, obtained from simulations using ARBOCARTO tool, for the same period. Notes
| Two study sites, Panchvati (PAN) and Pointe des Lascars (PDL) were selected as SIT test and control sites, respectively (Iyaloo et al., 2020). Aedes albopictus sterile males were released in PAN on a weekly basis from 17 May 2017 to 09 February 2018. Before the start of the SIT trials, ovitraps were set in PAN and PDL and eggs collections were performed weekly from 09 February 2017 to 13 April 2018. The percentage of fertile eggs was calculated on both sites. Additional egg collections were performed weekly from January to December 2019 on the PDL sites. Ae. albopictus population dynamics was simulated for the same period using the weather-driven ARBOCARTO model (Marti et al., 2025). The complete methodology is detailed in (Iyaloo et al., 2020) and (Haramboure et al., 2025). This dataset includes:
- Field entomological data (egg abundance, egg fertility)
- Simulated mosquito population dynamics (outputs of ARBOCARTO model)
- Work folder with the meteorological and environmental data used to run the ARBOCARTO model (inputs)
